Contract Category Lead The candidate will support the U.S. mining operations requiring knowledge and experience in communicating sourcing vision; building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders; implementing to support operations and projects; supporting the team in identifying and capturing new enterprise spend areas to add value and drive cost savings; delivering best in class performance; and performing other duties as assigned. Will responsible for delivering contracts that cover the requirements of the user areas; identifying and developing suppliers in the market to support commercial and operational needs; Understanding and implementing strategic sourcing methodology to support the development of the bulks category strategy through ongoing management of the category; bulk materials include, but are not limited to acid, lime, soda ash, and sulfur. Will also be responsible for transportation of these materials; Managing the tendering process, prepare for and develop strategies for tenders and lead/facilitate negotiations, conducting analysis to determine sourcing strategies as well as manage the preparation and/or issuance of contracts/purchase orders/agreements; Setting strategic sourcing goals and strategy to support corporate objectives and site level commitments; Developing and maintaining contracts register for end-user group and maintain currency. Will responsible for the continuous improvement and execution of Barrick’s sourcing strategy, policies and guidelines for services categories and contracts; is accountable for value-addition, cost savings, TCO, and other performance metrics; Tracking KPI's/Scorecards to manage department performance, responsible for timely monthly reporting; Actively tracking and measuring demand/usage, commodity pricing, identify and remedy supply chain inefficiencies associated with the Category for all sites; Interfacing with key client executives, ensure effective visibility of the sourcing vision, and build and maintain strong working relationships with internal clients, ensuring client satisfaction; Developing and implementing new concepts in work simplification and cost reduction including life cycle costing, value analysis, and vendor analysis, information necessary to recommend regional solutions; Executing the supplier relationship management process including but not limited to tracking supplier performance metrics, safety history and customer satisfaction metrics; Ensuring timely and professional service to user departments in the preparation and evaluations of bids, negotiation with suppliers, and recommendation to management for approvals, preparation of contract documentation, issuance of award of contracts and regret letters, and, management and close out of contracts; Developing skills and abilities of indirect reports and act as a champion and mentor for all resources in the supply chain organization; Supporting compliance to all policies and procedures as well as workflow processes and timely monthly reporting; Knowing and complying with the current Mining Safety and Health regulations and Loss Prevention procedures of Barrick; Demonstrating social awareness, commitment and compliance with Barrick’s Social Responsibility Policy, always showing a socially responsible behavior with the Community and with the Company. Measures progress to ensure that the team stays on schedule and meets or exceeds client standards. Anticipates the impact of decisions and action on both clients and customers. Planning/Project Management: Manages issues definition and resolution and escalates where appropriate. Involves right people/groups early in the planning process and ensures execution across teams/projects; Directs others to utilize market analysis, business knowledge and procurement expertise to develop market facing activities (RF(x)). Engages end-users to ensure requirements are accurate; Negotiates and executes complex contracts / service orders, commercial terms & conditions and coordinates legal review as required. Leverages contracting best practices, templates and contract management technology to be effective at the contracting process and escalate issues and risks to appropriate leadership; Appreciates how and when others should be kept informed. General awareness of the impact of decisions made at other levels in the organization. Knows a means to solicit support for new ideas or projects; Develops and implements supplier negotiation strategies and plans based on facts. Negotiates agreements to achieve results that support sourcing strategies and company’s business objectives; Facilitates goal-setting and problem –solving. Identifies and resolves conflicts and removes barriers to effective teamwork. Builds strong reciprocal relationships with others inside and outside the team and department. Analyzes team process inefficiencies and recommends improvements; Recognizes and acts preventatively on early warning signs of problems. Sees implications of decisions. Seeks to understand nuances and root causes. Takes action quickly but avoids rash conclusions. Finds resourceful ways to keep things on track. Redefines problems from a broader perspective considering strategic initiatives and business impact.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, Juris Doctorate or Paralegal certification preferred. Should have 6-8 years of directly related supply chain experience or equivalent combination of training and experience required; Mining experience preferred. Must have strong computer skills using office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. Should have knowledge of Oracle, Ellipse or equivalent enterprise level software packages preferred. Should have excellent skills associated with problem solving and analytics; Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
