A law firm in South San Francisco, CA, is seeking an Environmental and Land Use Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 1-5 years of substantive experience in environmental law with a focus on land use issues. This role involves handling a variety of legal tasks related to large-scale projects, including environmental permitting and regulatory compliance. The candidate will work closely with supervising attorneys and professional staff to manage cases and represent clients before various agencies and in court.

Duties:

  • Investigate, develop, and enforce legal and regulatory issues related to the permitting and approval of large-scale industrial, electric utility, residential, and commercial projects.
  • Conduct factual investigations and legal research, and develop cases through detailed record review.
  • Collaborate with scientists and other experts to incorporate technical information into legal strategies.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents, including briefs, motions, and regulatory submissions.
  • Represent clients before federal and state administrative and regulatory agencies, municipalities, and other local governmental bodies.
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and represent clients in court proceedings.
  • Participate in general rulemaking and regulatory proceedings, as well as state and local legislative hearings.
  • Work with supervising attorneys and staff on case management and strategy development.
  • Stay current with changes in environmental and land use law, and industry trends.

Requirements:

  • 1-5 years of substantive experience practicing environmental law in California.
  • Experience with land use law and regulatory matters related to large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving the public interest and environmental protection.
  • Strong ability to handle complex legal tasks and cases.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in California.

Skills:

  • Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in legal analysis and case development.
  • Effective oral advocacy skills, with experience in motion practice and brief writing.
  • Ability to represent clients before various administrative, regulatory, and governmental agencies.
