Senior Manager (Counsel) The candidate initiates and conducts efforts aimed at promoting and ensuring compliance with global privacy laws, regulations and policy requirements. Manages global initiatives related to protecting the personal data of Sony’s customers, employees, fans, artists and business partners. Provides advice and support across the company, as a privacy subject matter expert, including acting as a key liaison on day-to-day privacy related matters. Provides privacy related legal advice, as required. Consults with teams across the company regarding privacy issues and the integration of privacy best practices. Maintains knowledge of applicable privacy laws, regulations and best practices, and monitors changing global privacy laws, regulations and best practices. Partners with appropriate teams to carry out privacy risk assessments. Works closely with appropriate teams to enhance governance, controls and documentation, and address findings. Assists in the development and facilitation of privacy training and awareness programs across the group to improve employee awareness.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a strong data privacy background, including 7+ years’ direct data privacy experience. Certifications such as CIPP strongly preferred. Bachelor’s and J.D. degree is required; must also have a membership in good standing with the New York State bar. Experience with global cross-company privacy programs and/or initiatives, such as GDPR and/or CCPA, preferred. Experience in handling data breach investigations and working with data protection authorities preferred. Should have exceptional communication and advocacy skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to express complex and technical issues as understandable language within Sony, including clients and other stakeholders. Must have experience working independently. Must have solid leadership skills and be a team player. Should have ability to work and communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of executives including senior government and industry stakeholders. Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Must have ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously, with strong ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond to emergencies, organize and schedule work effectively. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
