A prominent law firm based in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Real Estate Associate or Special Counsel to join its expanding and dynamic Real Estate Department. The ideal candidate will have significant experience representing lenders in commercial real estate transactions, with a particular focus on construction loans. The firm is looking for a professional committed to dedicating at least 60% of their time to lender-side work. Candidates should bring exceptional legal expertise, strong academic credentials, and a proven ability to manage complex transactions while delivering high-quality client service.

Duties:

  • Provide expert legal counsel in commercial real estate transactions, particularly for lenders.
  • Focus on construction loan transactions, including structuring, negotiating, and documenting loans.
  • Draft and review loan agreements, security instruments, and related documents.
  • Advise clients on risk mitigation strategies, due diligence, and compliance with applicable laws.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring consistent communication and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys within the firm and across practice areas to provide comprehensive legal solutions.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior associates and other legal staff.
  • Assist in business development efforts, including client outreach and thought leadership.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 years of experience in a law firm setting, with a focus on lender-side real estate transactions.
  • Proven track record of managing complex commercial real estate deals, particularly construction loans.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate legal concepts to clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality legal services and maintaining client relationships.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic background with exceptional performance in relevant courses.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in Washington, DC.

Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of commercial real estate law, including lender-side transactions.
  • Expertise in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing loan agreements and related documents.
