Assistant Attorney General The candidate will be prosecuting and defending all civil and criminal actions in which the State has an interest, including on appeal. Defending the laws and the Constitution of the State of Colorado. Protecting consumers from scams and fraudulent activity. Serving as legal advisor to officers of the State of Colorado and defending them from legal challenge. Protecting and preserving Colorado’s natural resources. Advocating for policies that help law enforcement improve community safety. Investigating and prosecuting Medicaid fraud throughout the State. The candidate will work in the Human Services Unit within the State Services Section. Will help defend findings of child abuse and neglect made by county human services departments in proceedings before the Office of Administrative Courts, and prosecutes administrative licensing actions against childcare providers and substance use disorder treatment providers for violation of Department rules and applicable state statutes. Other cases involve issues related to developmental disabilities, public benefits and child support services, juvenile justice, and procurement disputes. There will be other duties as assigned, including legal research and writing to advise the client on specific issues. Cases and assignments vary and may originate from any division within the Department.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must be licensed to practice law in Colorado or clearly eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar and in good standing. Must have at least 5 years of legal experience, particularly civil litigation experience, strong written communication skills, and demonstrated interest in human services. Exceptional writing and analytical ability, particularly as demonstrated by past judicial clerkship experience, is strongly preferred. Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work both independently and productively as part of a team are essential. Applicants should be team players and have a demonstrated ability to learn new areas of law quickly. Must successfully pass a thorough criminal background investigation.
