ProfileSenior Title Examiner Duties: Work under the direction and supervision of Law Department’s Principal Title Examiners, lawyers, and/or Director of Property Acquisition, and legal staff. Will perform detail oriented, professional work involving property acquisition on public works projects by pursuant to the Eminent Domain Procedure Law. Responsibilities will include: review title report submissions from consultant firms under contract with NYC; review title searches and certifications; condemnations; closing assemblies; closing titles, and map review. The selected candidates may also: interpret laws and precedents affecting real property; perform all tasks involved in title searches; advise engineers and other non-legal personnel concerning real property title issues; and, prepare opinions and confer with other City officials regarding compromises and settlements.
Qualification and Experience
1. 3 years of (a) full-time paid experience in searching, examining, or reading of title to real property with a title company, governmental agency, conveyancer or attorney; or (b) full-time paid experience as an attorney in the real estate field.
2. Graduation from an accredited law school; or
3. A combination of education and/or experience described above which is equivalent to requirements "1" or "2".
Preferred Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and should have working knowledge of the Division’s procedure on property acquisition.
