Lateral Assistant District Attorney - Law Enforcement Accountability Bureau
Duties: Reviewing charge files and recommending the initiation of litigation. Conducting discovery for litigation in criminal and State Supreme court. Preparing and presenting motions, responses and oral arguments to the courts. Preparing pretrial and post-trial briefs and materials. Providing formal and informal legal advice and memoranda to agency personnel. Conducting all facets of trials in criminal and State Supreme courts. Riding (go out to the scene/precinct to enhance cases) on cases with the NYPD to report to crime scenes in the event of an arrest to take statements from suspects and witnesses of the case, participate in any lineups that are necessary and draw up search warrant applications as needed.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification: All candidates must be admitted to practice law in the State of New York. Candidates must have five to seven year of legal experience following graduation from an accredited law school preferably in a substantive area of the enforcement, related civil rights litigation, or general litigation in federal and/or state courts. Preferred Skills: Candidates must be able to excel in a fast-paced work environment and handle a high volume of cases and investigations. Candidates should have the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others within, as well as outside of our agency. Candidates should have litigation experience including a record of jury trials and a working knowledge of criminal procedure and rules of evidence. Candidates must have demonstrated strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills. Applicants should have some litigation experience preferably with a record of jury trials. Solid knowledge of criminal procedure, search and seizure law, and evidence is required. Candidates should have a proven record of conducting long-term, proactive investigations and the ability to work with outside agencies such as the NYPD. Wiretap and appellate experience is a plus.
