ProfilePart time Law Clerk I, Criminal/Civil Signing Assignment Duties: The candidate will perform clerical functions and legal research while working directly with judicial officers (judges and referees), litigants, attorneys, probation and police officers. Will work primarily with the Criminal/Civil Signing Judge, but may assist in Housing Court as needed. Confer with self-represented litigants regarding cases. Compile references on laws and decisions necessary for legal determinations. Confer with judge or court official concerning legal questions, construction of documents and granting of orders. May perform courtroom duties including calling the calendar; swearing in jury panels and witness; taking court minutes; and assisting in various court proceedings such as arraignments, motions, hearings, pre-trial conferences and trials. Other projects as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification: The candidate should have Bachelor's degree. Should have Completion of 1+ year of law school. Should have 1+ year of experience with legal research (Westlaw) and writing. Excellent interpersonal skill is essential. Proficiency in Spanish or Somali is preferred. Experience working with litigants in crisis is preferred. Experience working in a law firm or other legal setting is preferred. Experience working in a detail-oriented environment is preferred.
