ProfileBilingual Legal Clerk The candidate will conduct client intakes. Collect information necessary to address clients, legal issues and educate tenants regarding the legal system and the progress of an eviction lawsuit. Will review legal documents with tenants; instruct them on filing these documents and how to prepare for hearings and settlement conferences. Prepare responsive pleadings, stay of execution requests, and other necessary pleadings. Evaluate and screen cases for appropriate referrals for direct representation by other legal services organizations. Prepare case summaries for court ordered settlement conferences. Provide support for volunteer attorneys and attorneys at other legal services organizations representing tenants. Work with attorneys and other EDC staff to train and supervise volunteers and interns. Conduct trainings and other outreach as needed to other non-profits and community based agencies. Perform other duties as assigned. Excellent written and oral communication skills and computer literate is essential. Fluency, and ability to help clients, in a language other than English is essential.
