ProfileStaff Attorney DUTIES: Research and writing and legal analysis as assigned. Draft ordinances, codes, resolutions, policies and procedures and other governmental and administration documents as required. Negotiate, draft and review contracts. Prepare and reviews legal documents and correspondence for the Tribe. Research records, court files and other legal documents when required. Represent the Tribe in tribal and state courts, at tribunals and before administrative bodies when required. Answer questions and perform tasks related to the receipt, review and processing of official documents. Displays a courteous and helpful demeanor with colleagues and community members. Promotes the Tribe in a positive matter. Other duties as assigned by General Counsel.
Qualification and Experience
REQUIREMENTS: JD Degree from an accredited law school with license to practice law in the State of New York or another state. If the Attorney is admitted in another State and does not have a New York Bar, then the Attorney shall be required to obtain a New York Bar license within a year of engagement. 2+ years of experience practicing law required. Experience practicing Tribal and/or Federal Indian Law preferred. Knowledge of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, Tribal Government, history, culture and contemporary issues in the area of federal Indian Law also preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles and current practices in the field of Tribal governmental. Ability to deal with fairly complex interrelationships and personality types. Excellent writing, negotiation and research skills required.
