Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to join their team in Syracuse, NY. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior attorneys to provide legal services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses, assisting with estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters. This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow within a collaborative, client-focused environment, with a flexible hybrid remote work arrangement.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and representation on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters.
  • Draft, review, and finalize estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
  • Advise clients on strategies to minimize estate taxes and protect assets.
  • Assist with estate and trust administration, including filing legal documents, managing asset distribution, and resolving disputes.
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on developments in estate planning, tax, and probate law.
  • Collaborate with clients' financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to create comprehensive estate plans.
  • Represent clients in court regarding probate and trust administration proceedings, as necessary.
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with clients through effective communication and personalized service.

Requirements:

  • 4-6+ years of experience in Trusts and Estates law.
  • Active admission to the New York, Connecticut, and/or Massachusetts Bar (or ability to waive in).
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Proven experience drafting complex estate planning documents and administering trusts and estates.
  • Experience with estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Strong experience representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Probate Court matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly absorb and process new information.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • An active member in good standing of the Bar.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York, Connecticut, and/or Massachusetts Bar (or eligibility to waive in).

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research capabilities.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills for client and court interactions.
  • High organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload efficiently.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload and competing deadlines.
