General Counsel The candidate provides the legal infrastructure for the organization to include: policy and procedure, legal operating guidelines, legal compliance review, consultation and training on a variety of issues to ensure the organization's compliance. Analyzes prelitigation situations, makes recommendations for how to mitigate cost & risk and advises on actions to proceed. Manage the procedural process to evaluate, file, obtain and maintain patents, trademarks and copyrights globally. Responds to general, corporate, and IP inquiries from Leadership, Product Development and other internal business partners. Strategically manage the patent and trademark portfolios globally. Efficiently manage the company's patent and trademark litigation efforts. Draft or review a range of commercial agreements, including third party supply contracts, technology development agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other commercial agreements. Lead the intellectual property effort with respect to acquisitions. Advises selection of and directs the activities of outside counsel retained to represent the organization on litigation and various other fronts. JD degree is needed. Licensed to practice before the Virginia Bar is needed. Should have 5+ years of relevant legal experience as an attorney, with an emphasis in intellectual property on a global scale. Must have experience drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on relevant business/legal contracts. Must demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills as well as good judgment. Capacity to cultivate strong relationships and successfully influence leadership in a fast-paced, innovative business climate. Relevant global legal experience is preferred.
