Associate General Counsel The candidate will act as a strong business partner to provide legal leadership and strategic advice to management and assist with all corporate legal and regulatory matters. Will be responsible for closing transactions, including sales, acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures. Will also provide asset and corporate level due diligence. Legal Document Management: will review and draft real estate-related documents, including transactional documents dealing with acquisitions, financing, and dispositions. Litigation and Claims: will handle litigation and claims (including, but not limited to, detailed oversight of litigation logs, case strategy recommendations, claim reviews, loss trends and legal spend) for efficient resolutions.Risk Management: will oversee risk management and mitigation, including judging the merits of claims and lawsuits filed against company, recommending appropriate plan of action and training materials. You will also review and draft all related legal documents. Insurance Compliance: will partner with the Chief Compliance Officer on all insurance renewal documentation and delivery of insurance certificates, review of insurance policy language, fund and loan insurance requirements; Stakeholder Management: will establish and maintain good relations with key stakeholders with sound judgement and reputation management in mind and provide diligent and regular communication on status, next steps, and resolution of issues from stakeholders. Overall: Will be an excellent teammate who embraces the Waterton Way and helps create and deliver departmental and organizational goals, including sharing best practices on process improvement, refining and introducing new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Will constantly analyze the fine print and make sure that your work product is very accurate, and hold everyone accountable for producing high-quality deliverables.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have (10) years’ related experience. Previous litigation, real estate, and claims management experience is a huge plus, and experience in an in-house counsel role is strongly preferred. Should have some credentials. Must be a Juris Doctor with admission in good standing to State Bar and the Northern District of Illinois. A Notary Public in state is also required. Should be a great communicator. Should have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to deliver a message to a diverse audience professionally, succinctly, and with confidence. Must demonstrate leadership and own your work product. Should be able to work independently with limited direct supervision, and work style encourages results. Should excel at stakeholder management. Utilizing a service-focused mentality, understand the importance of managing expectations and delivering good results. Must possess very strong project management skills, juggling big and small tasks alike with a positive attitude.
