Directing Attorney The candidate will work with the President/CEO and other firm leadership to determine the strategic direction of the agency and oversee its implementation. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the agency including assistance with VA benefits, tickets, warrants, expungements, and other legal issues encountered by veterans. In addition, represent veterans and veteran caregivers seeking assistance to access benefits and services to which they are entitled, and will supervise and train the agency staff and volunteers to provide similar services to veterans and veteran caregivers. Also be responsible for directing policy efforts on issues affecting veterans. Work with Public Counselâ€™s Development Department to assist with fundraising to sustain the agencyâ€™s work, and will coordinate with other Projects within Public Counsel to arrange for holistic services for those veterans who may be homeless, immigrants, victims of consumer scams, or otherwise need services provided by other Projects. Member in good standing of the State Bar required. 7+ years of experience with legal issues facing veterans, including VA benefits, preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Comfort working with low-income, racially diverse clients and veterans who may be affected by physical or emotional trauma related to their service required. Strong interpersonal, management and organizational skills required. Ability: and willingness to mentor and develop staff; and ability to work productively with coalitions, working groups and volunteers required.
