Paralegal Duties: Perform full range of paralegal tasks from case inception through case closure. Maintain and monitor court deadlines for assigned cases and take ownership of case calendars. Prepare deposition notices; organize, maintain and prepare deposition materials, exhibits and summaries. Participate in case strategy meetings. Ensure expertise in technology relevant to the position; proactively use most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiency. Electronically file documents with the Court through the ECF system under the supervision of an attorney. Handle routine calls and correspondence to outside attorneys, courthouse personnel, vendors, and clients. Handle large document reviews, both in person and electronically, generate and maintain production logs, and organize discovery.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: BA/BS required. Paralegal certificate a plus. 5+ years of litigation experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing both asbestos and non-asbestos cases; case preparation from beginning to end; the ability to perform federal and state court filings; experience with trial preparation and trials; experience with document review software (Concordance, I-Pro, Eclipse); Experience with e-filing within the Courts, specifically with the U.S District Courts and Maryland state courts. Ability to conduct research using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, and Lexis/Lexis Advance. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Nuance PDF). Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills. Ability to assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions. Ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines. Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent teamwork skills and a strong client service orientation. Flexibility to work overtime as required. Communication skills; the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, attorneys, and staff; the ability to self-manage and meet deadlines; and the ability to work overtime when needed. Mid-size to large law firm experience a plus.
