Position Title: IP Biotechnology Patent Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A leading law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a highly skilled IP Biotechnology Patent Associate Attorney with a minimum of three years of patent counseling experience, specializing in chemical, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical intellectual property. This role requires in-depth knowledge and experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, along with a strong background in biotechnology or related fields. The selected candidate will play a vital role in supporting clients' IP portfolios through strategic advice and practical legal solutions.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute domestic and international patent applications related to biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical innovations.
  • Draft patent opinions and conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Engage in strategic IP counseling, including advising on patent portfolio development.
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure alignment of IP strategies with business goals.
  • Conduct legal research and draft documents to support patent applications and IP protection efforts.
  • Guide patent processes, legal developments, and best practices in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in patent counseling, specifically in biotechnology or related technology fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with a focus on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or chemical sectors.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences (., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics) or a closely related field.

Certifications:

  • A USPTO registration number is required.
  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active membership and good standing in the Illinois Bar.

Skills:

  • Expertise in biotechnology patent processes, including patentability, prosecution, and opinion drafting.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and an aptitude for complex problem-solving.
