Job Summary:

We are a national law firm based out of Tampa, Florida.  Our Tampa office is looking for an experienced and determined attorney to add to our Labor and Employment Division.  This attorney will assist with managing a diverse portfolio of clients and cases within our employment practice group.  These matters involve various employment issues, including wage and hour, workplace safety, restrictive covenants, discrimination, retaliation, disability accommodations, family and medical leave, termination, etc. The attorney who joins our Labor and Employment Division will have two primary roles: an advisor and an advocate. As an advisor, the attorney will help client companies manage their business operations with respect to compliance with various employment laws and regulations. This involves reviewing, revising, and/or preparing company policies and practices, employee handbooks, and various employment agreements; this also involves advising clients regarding specific employment circumstances or incidents.  As an advocate, the attorney will represent clients in litigation, administrative investigations and proceedings, and dispute resolution proceedings (mediations and arbitrations). This position is a client-facing role with responsibilities that include consistent interactions directly with the client, preparing and responding to pleadings and discovery, court appearances, depositions, trial work, and strategic negotiations and dispute resolution. During the process, you will regularly collaborate with other attorneys at our firm to manage each of your assigned cases. 

To be successful in this role, the attorney should possess strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, and must utilize big picture thinking, with an attention to detail, and the ability to evaluate the best approach with shifting priorities.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of Civil Litigation experience as a practicing attorney
  • 3+ years of practice with a focus on employment law

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Yes – the attorney will have supervisory responsibilities with respect to junior associates and legal staff.  

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Advising employers regarding various employment practices and compliance with applicable employment laws
  • Reviewing, revising, and drafting various employment policies, manuals, and agreements for employers
  • Consulting with clients to ascertain the details, issues, and merits of each case
  • Conducting and legal research
  • Drafting and responding to legal pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
  • Representing clients at meetings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Admitted to practice law in Florida.  Admission in other states a plus
  • Ability to write and advocate clearly, concisely, and persuasively
  • Familiarity with labor and employment law
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Highly self-motivated with ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Ability to conceive, develop, and execute case strategies
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced, and at times stressful, environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and good judgment 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods working at a desk and working on a computer

Compensation:

  • This position comes with a strong compensation package that includes a base salary (salary amount dependent on candidate’s experience), substantial bonus opportunities, origination credits, health benefits, 401K matching, and other benefits
