Law Clerk The Law clerks will assist justices they work for with legal research, studying petitions for review, preparation for oral argument, and researching and drafting opinions. Each justice hires two law clerks for one-year terms that begin in September. Applications are open to all law students who will have graduated by the beginning of the clerkship as well as to licensed attorneys. Strong preference is given to candidates with outstanding academic records and demonstrated writing ability.
