A law firm seeks a talented Business Litigation Associate to join their growing Richmond, VA office. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an associate with 2-4 years of experience to contribute to a dynamic business litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in business, complex, and general litigation, with a focus on trials, motions practice, discovery, and settlement negotiations. Strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing, and communication skills are essential. Clerkship experience and a background in advocating before administrative bodies or in arbitration are considered a plus.

Duties:

  • Manage various business litigation matters, including complex commercial disputes, contract issues, and other business-related claims.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and settlement agreements.
  • Participate in trial preparation, including witness preparation and deposition strategies.
  • Handle all stages of litigation, from initial filings through resolution or trial.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to strategize case approaches and provide client updates.
  • Represent clients in court hearings, motions, and, if applicable, arbitration or administrative hearings.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and present findings clearly to the team and clients.

Requirements:

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in business litigation or related fields.
  • Strong experience in litigation processes, including trials, motions practice, and discovery.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Experience with settlement negotiations and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Clerkship experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience advocating before administrative bodies or in arbitration is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Virginia State Bar (or eligibility to practice in Virginia).

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in drafting litigation documents and preparing motions.
  • Ability to manage cases from initiation through resolution.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for client interaction and courtroom advocacy.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple cases and priorities.
