Assistant District Attorney - Promotional The candidate will perform administrative professional legal work to assist the District Attorney in directing the administration and operations of the District Attorney's Office; and to perform related work as required. Plans, coordinates, assigns, and reviews the work of subordinate professional and clerical personnel in the District Attorney's Office. Assists in the hiring and formulation of departmental policies and procedures and ensures that they are implemented and observed. Assumes responsibility for the administration and operation of the Office. Assumes responsibility for assignment of attorneys to superior and inferior courts and the training of subordinate attorneys. Lectures on laws of evidence, penal code, and criminal procedure to various law enforcement groups. Authorizes extradition and rendition procedures. Supervises and reviews all prepared papers in extradition procedures. Appears before various civic, professional, educational, and other type groups to deliver lectures on criminal law and matters relating to the District Attorney's Office. Presents cases to the Grand Jury. Represents the District Attorney on assigned enforcement problems. Prepares and edits legal documents. Prepares matters in Superior Court. Prepares correspondence. Must have membership in the California State Bar. Should have 10+ years of experience in professional legal work, including 2+ years of administrative work or criminal prosecution. Thorough knowledge of the methods and practices of pleading and effective techniques in the presentation of cases in court is required. Thorough knowledge of the principles of criminal law is needed. Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and practices of legal research, considerable knowledge of the statutory and constitutional law of the State of California is must.
