Legal Assistant III, Medicaid Fraud Control Division
The candidate composes, formats, proofreads, prepares, serves and files pleadings, motions, briefs and other legal and investigative documents meeting specific time requirements, court schedules and confirmation procedures. Prepares initial responsive pleadings, and correspondence in civil lawsuits; discovery pleadings, both propounded and responsive, such as interrogatories and requests for production; motions, affidavits, briefs, responses and proposed orders; deposition notices and subpoenas; Civil Investigative Demands; appellate pleadings, motions, and briefs, as well as other documents required by court rule. Prepares initial pleadings for criminal litigation; prepares discovery; prepares subpoenas for witnesses; appellate pleadings, motions, and briefs, as well as other documents required by court rule. Checks legal citations and references and utilizes Westlaw to check case citations. Obtains due dates from court documents or court rules and keeps tickle calendar; keeps attorney, investigator, analyst and paralegal informed of approaching due dates. Schedules depositions and hearings, and makes arrangements with court reporters, conference rooms. Prepares witnesses for travel and reimbursement for criminal trials. Receives, reads, dockets incoming mail, identify, and route critical events and hearings to Division reader in accordance to Division procedures. Dockets all outgoing mail and determines most cost effective and expeditious means of delivery and proof of service. Applies specialized knowledge of various court rules related to legal practice subject matter and court filing procedures. Must have High School diploma or equivalent and 4+ years of experience in a legal environment in support of an attorney, administrative law judge(s), review judge(s) or equivalent; 1 year as a Legal Assistant II; A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal Studies or related field of study plus 2 years of legal office experience. Must have a Bachelor's degree may substitute for the Legal Secretary or Paralegal degree. Experience with electronic case filing (ECF) procedures desired. Experience with electronic discovery software preferred.
