Summer Internship The student will serve as LGBTQ Law Project Intern. Interns will interview potential clients about issues to be resolved, screen out domestic violence cases through clients' interviews, observe, take notes and write a summary of mediation sessions and conduct outreach to community based organizations about the project. In addition, students assist clients prepare statements of net worth and gather financial information, draft agreements mediated by the parties at Group, work on an uncontested divorce for a party who mediated their agreement at Group, as well as research and write a guide on issues such as equitable distribution, support, custody/visitation and domestic violence to be used by consulting attorneys. A full-time commitment of 10 weeks (usually commencing the Tuesday after Memorial Day and ending early August) is required. In addition to handling substantive work at the Group, interns will have the opportunity to participate in comprehensive training that covers the breadth of civil legal services practice in New York City, as well as a series of brown bag lunches on fellowships, clerkships and other topics of interest, and social events in and around the office in lower Manhattan.
