Agency Attorney Duties : Responsible for providing assistance to the Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) to monitor and improve educational outcomes for youth in secure detention and non-secure detention. Also assist DYFJ in monitoring and supporting the educational engagement of youth in the Close to Home initiative (CTH). In CTH, juvenile delinquents are adjudicated to non-secure or limited-secure placements, stay in community-based residences within New York City, and receive their education through the New York City Department of Education. These placements facilitate better service planning and future outcomes for the youth; and reduce the rate of recidivism by providing all services, including education, in the vicinity of their homes and in conjunction with their families.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification : Should have Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below. Must have 1+ year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any State Bar; or Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.

To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, must have 1+ year of experience at Assignment Level I or 2+ years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
To be assigned to AL III, must have 2+ years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
Experience and expertise in strength based, solution-focused and family centered practice is preferred. Knowledge in the use of NYS Connections Comprehensive Case Management System, Microsoft Access, Excel and Word is preferred. Bilingual preferred.
