Victim Advocate - GS 9 The candidate will serve as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) providing professional and comprehensive advocacy services to victims/survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment. Conduct assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services. Ensure victims of sexual assault receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures. Ensure victims understand the processes involved and that data will be collected, reported, and maintained on cases. Accompany victims and provides support in securing medical treatment, safe shelter, protective orders, court hearings, educational, transportation, financial services, and follow-up assistance. Provide support before, during and after trials. Conducts interactive training workshops/seminars to victims, community agencies and the organization.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have following qualification: Basic Requirement: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field OR four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Minimum Qualification: To qualify based on experience, resume must describe 1 year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment; conducting assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services; maintaining partnerships in the community, and conducting training/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-07. The Minimum Qualification can also be met by substituting education. Education: To qualify based on education in lieu of specialized experience, must possess a completed master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., in behavioral/social science or related to the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet qualification requirements.
