Legal Nurse Consultant Duties: Runs day-to-day cases by reviewing office files and answers correspondence. Assists Attorney in management activities and in any matter of legal research as requested. Independently performs all matters of legal research including complex legal issues as assigned. Drafts memos, answers, correspondence to clients, claims and customers as necessary with regard to discovery matters and/or file/case status. Drafts interrogatories and other discovery requests as well as highly complex pleadings including dispositive motions, orders and briefs. Sends to attorney for approval. Obtains, compiles and analyzes records for discovery. Handles incoming discovery. Analyzes and responds to incoming discovery. Reviews and analyzes medical records. Prepare experts/other witnesses and any other necessary pre-trial and/or trial activities. Summarizes and/or indexes depositions, and on completion of discovery, summarizes and indexes files. Drafts jury instructions including special jury instructions. Drafts and issues necessary subpoenas. Draft pre-trial order/statement. Contacts parties and witness(es) concerning trial dates and coordinates their attendance and testimony. Organizes all necessary interviews; meet with clients and/or witnesses as necessary to ensure proper case development. Organizes all necessary medical and expert witnesses and coordinates their time. Manages workflow and provides training to Paralegals. Conducts open and closed paralegal file audits and informs paralegals of audit results. Prepares attorneys and office leadership in preparation for office/file audits. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance or other related area preferred. Certification in paralegal studies with ongoing, job-related continuing education preferred. 8+ years experience in a paralegal capacity with proven performance. Knowledge: Has developed paralegal expertise in multiple areas of law. Operation, practices and procedures of a law office engaged in civil litigation. Filing procedures of relevant courts and administrative agencies. Established knowledge of legal research and complex and/or dispositive motion practices as well as appellate procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of ability to analyze and interpret medical reports. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for contact with employees, attorneys, clients and customers. Ability to operate a personal computer and related legal and business software and data bases. Ability to design and maintain filing systems. Ability to set work priorities that conform with established standards. Understanding of training and development principles and concepts. Ability to give presentations in both formal and informal settings. Proven ability to provide leadership and support.
