Immigration Assistant
The candidate will provide duties include: Supports Paralegals, Senior Paralegals and Attorney in email/phone communications. Provides limited guidance to assignees regarding proprietary systems and case processing. Develops understanding of client communication procedures and requirements. Inputs client services rendered and sends to Accounting for processing. Begins to learn procedures and documentations requirements for case types (simple and advanced); executes case processing tasks as assigned. Processes basic corporate immigration cases. Relays concerns and proactively escalates to the appropriate BAL team member(s). Utilizes templates and prepared materials when completing documents for attorney review; begins learning BAL best practices. Manages status of all filed applications and petitions and finalizes documents after attorney review. Utilizes document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework as per BAL policy. Learns how to prepare internal caseload reports for management. Shares process flow (based on templates) with assignees. Performs research to obtain information such as background on a company or industry, current wages, processing procedures, standard processing times, etc. Initiates contact with government agencies to obtain necessary information; alerts Senior Paralegal and/or attorney regarding potential process delays/problems.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have 0-2+ years corporate immigration experience. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Must have superb organizational skills. Must have ability to follow instructions and take actions independently. Must have ability to manage cases and work within strict timelines. Must have excellent English language skills, both verbal and written. Must have ability to proofread and edit one’s own work product. Must have good general computer knowledge and typing skills, including word-processing, email, and forms software. Must have professional, respectful attitude towards all coworkers. Must have ability to receive and analyze information. Must have ability to share information with office members. Must have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Get it together and have a heart. Quit expecting people to worship the ground associate attorneys walk on. Also the free bagels on Thursdays are nice but come on.

Pros : Your coworkers who are working in the trenches with you are genuinely good people and look out for each other.
Cons : Associate attorneys lack managerial training and are only focused on the number of cases done per day regardless of how many cases (160+) you are working on and how burnt out you are becoming. Training is mediocre at best, obviously it makes it appear a great place to work. A word of guidance to anyone considering this position: if they’re hiring in December you will get thrown in at their most busy time of year and likely be let go after it.
