Profile

Civil Practice Paralegal
The candidate will provide duties include: Provide advice and direct assistance to clients. Organize tenants. Provide brief service on behalf of clients. Advocate on behalf of clients with government agencies. Conduct factual and legal research. Assist attorneys with litigation for repairs and to prevent evictions. Perform client intake. Interview clients and assess requests for services. Provide advice, advocacy, and representation at administrative hearings. Draft affidavits on behalf of clients. Assist with telephone hot lines. Develop community education materials and conduct training for clients and other advocates. Maintain case management. Conduct courthouse-based and off-site intake as needed, including during evening hours. Participate in client outreach efforts. Conduct policy advocacy on behalf of clients. Carry out other tasks of general assistance to the work of the unit.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited paralegal program or Bachelor's degree in relevant field; internal applicants may fulfill this requirement by satisfactorily completing a comprehensive in-house training course appropriate to practice area. Must have excellent written, oral advocacy, and computer skills. Must have ability to work independently as well as in a team and manage a large workload. Must have ability to coordinate and collaborate successfully with other groups and organizations. Experience in and/or commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income people and immigrants is strongly desired. Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Experience assisting people in crisis is desirable. Proficiency in languages other than English, especially Spanish, is desirable.
