Duties: Support selection of relevant trademarks, applying for registration of new trademarks, and maintaining PMI’s current trademark portfolio by filing renewal applications and maintenance documents for US registrations and instructing external trademark counsel on renewal of foreign registrations. Prepare documents related to the application, registration and maintenance of trademarks and copyrights, and assume responsibility for timely execution and filing. Maintain a database of trademark applications and registrations and prepare docket and portfolio reports as needed. Communicate with U.S. and foreign trademark counsel with regard to the prosecution of pending applications and related oppositions. Review incoming reports of intellectual property violations and either communicate minor infractions directly or prepare cease and desist letters for review by Vice President & General Counsel. Maintain a database of cease and desist matters and monitor response deadlines. Research legal issues, which may involve applicable domestic and international laws, as identified. Resolve PMI’s matters, as may be assigned, through factual investigations, legal research, document drafting, and communication with other appropriate stakeholders. Support legal functions of PMI and PMI Educational Foundation as directed, including document drafting, maintenance of legal records and files, and factual and legal investigation and research. Provide support for intellectual property activities related to established institute-level policies.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Paralegal Certificate is strongly preferred. 5+ years of formal trademark paralegal experience is required. Experience working as a trademark paralegal in a large law firm or corporate law department is required. Strong working knowledge of US and international trademark law and practice, including searching and clearing experience, and familiarity with CPI docketing database or other comparable trademark docketing database. Strong Microsoft Office capabilities required along with excellent writing and organizational skills. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a deadline-driven environment. Ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks/projects with time constraints and interruptions. Strong work ethic for accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness. Strong online research skills a must.
