Privacy and Cybersecurity Attorney
The candidate will work as Counsel to a State Privacy and Security Coalition client and to advise other firm clients on privacy compliance and cybersecurity risk management matters. Will issue-spot and analyse the large volume of state legislation and proposed regulations affecting member companies. Draft legislative analyses and advocacy materials. Help negotiate and draft legislative language. Help coordinate input from and drive consensus member companies on coalition positions and work with them to develop policy proposals and arguments that reflect the consensus of views by member companies. Testify at state legislative and administrative hearings. Write occasional comments in state administrative proceedings. Work collaboratively with a coalition management company that tracks the large volume of federal and state activity and supports the Coalition's work. Draft privacy policies, negotiate privacy and security contract clauses, provide privacy and security compliance advice, and manage international compliance projects. Juris Doctor degree is required. Must have either privacy or cybersecurity experience or experience working within or for a Coalition or trade association or in policy advocacy at state or federal level. Strong legal analysis skills. Interest in privacy and cybersecurity law is needed. An aptitude for assessing nuances in policy positions, moderating differences, and forging consensus is essential. Strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills are needed.
Note: The candidate should have a willingness to work long hours and respond to quick turn-around requests during the state legislative season (February-June) (hours can be part-time for the balance of the year, if desired).
