Non-Accredited Representative Duties: Work directly with low and middle-income immigrants and refugees who have immigration matters before and/or the Baltimore Immigration Court. Will primarily work on affirmative cases for immigrant clients. Will be primarily responsible for interviewing clients, assessing their needs and legal options, preparing appropriate applications for benefits and representing them. Initial contact with individuals who approach ILS for assistance or representation. Interview clients (and if needed, witnesses). Research client eligibility for immigration benefits and assist clients to gather evidence and documents to support their cases. Help to prepare clients or witnesses for administrative proceedings. Assist in filling out forms and gathering documents for immigration applications. May represent clients in court proceedings or before DHS in accordance with federal regulations upon full DOJ accreditation. Prepare clients' applications for immigration benefits under attorney supervision Plan and participate in community outreach/probono activities. Office duties such as answering telephones and copying documents. Collect program fees from clients for ILS casework. Maintain accurate case management records in online legal software and physical client file.

Qualification and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree in law, human services, Spanish, humanities or related field and 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be eligible to apply for accreditation by the Executive Office of Immigration Review within 1 month and secure full accreditation within 18 months. Must be computer literate – including word processing, legal research and web-based case management software. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills. Must be fluent in English and Spanish. Must be detail-oriented and able to function in a fast-paced environment within deadlines. Ability to travel to other locations for meetings. If driving on agency business, must possess a valid driver's license with 3+ points. Excellent communication, analytic, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to set priorities and exercise good judgment. Ability to work with clients from diverse cultures. Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet deadlines. Experience in serving culturally diverse clientele helpful. Ability to travel to multiple locations required. If driving a vehicle on agency business, a driver's license with no more than 3 points is required. Ability to move throughout the building. Job requires intermittent sitting and bending.
