Associate Attorney – Immigration
The candidate will be responsible to provide legal representation and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking in immigration law matters, including all aspects of preparing VAWA Self-Petitions, Battered Spouse Waivers, Adjustment of Status Applications, Asylum applications, VAWA Cancellation of Removal and other removal defense strategies, SIJS, U visas, and T visas. Conduct regular intake and assessment of potential clients. Track and collect statistical information for grant reports and compile and draft semi-annual grant reports for funders. Participate in committees and working groups addressing the rights of immigrant survivors. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Collaborate agency-wide with firm’s many programs, including trafficking, counseling and shelter.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have J.D. Law Degree, with admission or pending admission to a State Bar, a minimum 1 to 2 years experience, and knowledge of DV/HT and trauma-informed practice. Immigration law experience related to domestic violence and human trafficking is necessary or law school clinic. Experience working with diverse communities is necessary. Must have commitment to serve the public interest with high standards of legal practice in a manner that is client-centered. Fluency/proficiency in Spanish or a language commonly spoken by members of our client communities is strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are must. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and case management database programs is needed. Excellent organizational, time management and record keeping skills, including the ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines is must. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and to interact with management and program staff and build strong client relationships is required.
