Office of General Counsel Trademark Paralegal Manager
Duties: Pursue opportunities to develop existing and new skills outside of comfort zone. Act to resolve issues which prevent effective team working, even during times of change and uncertainty. Coach others and encourage them to take ownership of their development. Analyse complex ideas or proposals and build a range of meaningful recommendations. Use multiple sources of information including broader stakeholder views to develop solutions and recommendations. Address sub-standard work or work that does not meet firm’s/client’s expectations. Develop a perspective on key global trends, including globalisation, and how they impact the firm and our clients. Manage a variety of viewpoints to build consensus and create positive outcomes for all parties. Focus on building trusted relationships. Uphold the firm’s code of ethics and business conduct.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: High School Diploma. 3 years' experience. Bachelor Degree Preferred. Preferred: Demonstrates extensive knowledge of, and/or proven record of success in, roles as a paralegal in the following areas: Supporting trademark matters and managing a trademark portfolio, including managing the US firm’s docket of federal U.S. and global trademarks, managing filing deadlines, engaging outside local counsel, having strategy discussion with outside counsel on trademark filings and applications, and interfacing with business stakeholders on filings, applications and the like; Supervising trademark docket clerks, including establishing daily tasks and strategic priorities; Managing outside vendor resources used to coordinate trademark searches, trademark watch service; and trademark docket, including negotiating commercial terms on annual basis; Performing knockout and full trademark searches and clearances to determine whether proposed uses of new brands may infringe third party brands and to determine suitability / feasibility of likelihood of a successful trademark registration; Coordinating powers of attorney for outside local law firms in 30+ countries on periodic basis; Filing trademark applications and responding to trademark office actions with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including working with business teams and OGC attorneys to establish substance of applications and communicating with trademark examiners in the USPTO to negotiate scope of applications; Working with OGC to establish a process for management of patent docket and performing similar tasks as the above for patents and patent portfolio (which have not yet been established); Possessing communication skills (written and verbal) and experience working with stakeholders on a global basis are essential; Demonstrating the ability to synthesize and communicate complex topics to others in simple/concise manner; Showing the ability to communicate across cultures and disciplines; and, Coordinating trademark matters across PwC Network and potentially legal teams in multiple countries.
