ProfileLabor and Employment Counsel The candidate will provide legal services as a partner to the Company’s business teams and assist those teams in achieving their goals and the goals of firm's in the context of applicable laws and regulations related to the employment relationship, the competitive environment, Company values, and shareholder expectations. Will serve as counsel for business operations across the U.S. and act as a coordinating resource for significant international employment law and human rights issues. Also serve as a key liaison with national outside labor and employment counsel, and work collaboratively with outside counsel to address needs for legal services. Routinely interface with senior management and management of businesses and functions to deliver business specific legal services. Review documentation and data to determine potential legal risks of a full range of employee relations matters, including, but not limited to, labor relations (including within a union environment), employee terminations, employee non-compete questions, reductions-in-force, wage and hour issues, and discrimination and disciplinary matters. Provide high quality legal advice and counseling based upon sound legal judgment and analysis as well as consideration of practical needs of the business. Develop defenses to legal claims in employment disputes. Influence corporate infrastructure, policies, and practices as appropriate. Assist the corporation in developing frameworks for both legal and business analyses. Advise on requirements and implications of wide variety of laws and regulations, including but not limited to the following: NLRA, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, ERISA, FMLA, Title VII, and employment-related state statutes. Drive the proactive development and implementation of employment risk management strategies, including employee training programs, complaint investigation procedures and practices, and alternative dispute resolution. Stay abreast of legal and business developments and monitor for potential legal risks. Review and draft company policies and procedures ensuring they comply with applicable law. Conduct investigations and legal analysis by reviewing documents, interviewing witnesses, and obtaining evidence to determine legal risks to the Company or business. Engage in personal and professional development, including through attendance at CLE seminars as appropriate.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have J.D. Degree. Must have 6-8 years of corporate and/or law firm experience, with a concentration in labor and employment law. Thorough, balanced grasp of state and federal laws and regulations is required. Ability to collaborate effectively with outside counsel is required. Must have strong communication and negotiation skills.
