Profile

Biological Scientist (Environmental) - GS 9 The candidate participates in providing environmental biological science support in assigned environmental projects through application of professional knowledge and skill in the biological sciences with emphasis on environmental practices, processes, and techniques. Employee has complete responsibility for small, routine projects or performs portions of large, complex projects assigned to a highergrade professional (e.g., environmental engineer, physical scientist, or biological scientist). Responsible for executing assigned routine projects, in-house and by contract, to comply with all applicable Federal, state, and local environmental laws and policies. Executes short-term goals and priorities to support the management plan utilizing available resources. Assists in the development of curricula and training for assigned program areas. Supports quality improvement and promotes the environmental awareness program. Prepares and implements various environmental training sessions and briefings. Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work that enhances the safety of the work environment. Ensures adherence to Federal, state, and local codes concerning health, safety, and the environment.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have following qualifications:
Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Additional Requirement for the GS-9: Should have one full year (18 semester hours or the equivalent) of graduate level study, or possess a master's or higher degree, e.g., LL.B., J.D., LL.M.,
Ph.D., in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of this position. Such fields include biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Specialized Experience: Must have 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes professional environmental biological scientific principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively participate in project development, execution, training, and assistance in assigned projects.
Should have knowledge of professional environmental biological scientific principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively participate in project development, execution, training, and assistance in assigned projects. Must have knowledge to troubleshoot routine environmental biological problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned projects. Must have knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices. Should have ability to establish effective working relationships with others. Must have ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy.
