Senior Corporate Counsel - Regulatory The candidate provides counsel and guidance on legal implications of matters to senior Company personnel in designated areas of responsibility. Determines or assists in determining the source of legal services to be used as situations develop, as well as reconciles and advises as to the Company’s recommended position on legal matters. Supervises outside counsel engaged by the Company. Reviews outside counsel billing to assure compliance with Company policy and efficient use of Company resources. Reviews, analyzes and comments on the Company’s legal obligations and advises the appropriate function head of the degree of legal risk on matters or issues within the assigned area of responsibility. Performs other legal services as necessary. Represents the Company as appropriate in its relationship with the legal and business communities by participating in targeted events, conferences and workshops. Maintains a professional and technical knowledge by attending legal workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. Must have Juris Doctorate or foreign equivalent from an accredited law school. Should have 5+ years of professional experience as an attorney at a private law firm, corporation, or governmental agency. Must be a member in good standing of a Bar of one of the fifty states or the District of Columbia. Must be able to demonstrate a high level of analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking to provide legal counsel and guidance to the Company, as described above. Should ideally have familiarity with federal statutes and regulations regarding higher education, and broad experience advising an institution of higher education in some or all of the following areas: institutional governance and policy, FERPA, Clery Act, Institutional Review Board, and management of regulatory and litigation matters.
