Counsel, Policy The candidate helps shape the industry's policy and advocacy strategy on copyright law and other legal and policy matters that impact the creative and innovative video game industry. Identifies, monitors, and analyzes legislation, regulations, and proposals at the state and federal level on intellectual property and other areas that are relevant to the industry to prepare summaries, analyses, policy papers, and materials for the broader team and its members. Coordinates across the legal team members, the Intellectual Property Protection and Security (IPPS) team, Government Affairs and Communication and Public Affairs teams to ensure alignment on intellectual property and other assigned priorities, advocacy, and messaging.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a law degree from an ABA-accredited institution and 3+ years of relevant experience working on intellectual property law and policy issues, including copyright, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. Familiarity with digital policy issues, such as online safety, content moderation, and/or artificial intelligence is strongly preferred. Should have the ability to network with government and other external contacts. Must be skilled in communicating complex legal and policy issues and craft concise written messaging for a variety of audiences, including the ESA team, member companies, and industry and government stakeholders. Knowledge of the video game industry is a plus. Some travel may be required.
