ProfileAssistant General Counsel The candidate will be responsible for providing business and legal advice to the General Counsel, Group President and senior management on a wide range of business, strategic and legal matters. Areas of responsibility include, corporate strategy, new business ventures, managing regulatory compliance and government inquiries, monitoring and influencing when appropriate the development of new laws or regulations, supplier and producer/agent contracting, real estate transactions, managing issues involving insurance and/or reinsurance law and assisting in the management of corporate legal structure and governance. Work with the General Counsel to manage corporate legal functions including governance, the management of corporate structures for the insurance companies and assisting in matters of corporate secretary on legal entity board meetings and ERISA committees, as appropriate. Assist the General Counsel in managing legal department budget and outside counsel relationships, contracts, activities and expenditures. Provide legal advice and counsel on a wide range of business and insurance matters. Draft and negotiate commercial contracts, vendor contract management, and the management of producer appointments and agreements. Must have Juris Doctorate degree with 8+ years in general corporate legal practice. Should have license to practice law in Connecticut, New York or Illinois. Corporate law experience within the financial services industry is required. Strong legal and contract drafting and negotiation skills is needed.
