Lead Attorney/Health Duties: Competently plans and handles complex litigation Evaluates the work of and creates professional development plans for staff underneath his/her direct supervision Interviewing of prospective clients, rendering legal advice, maintaining an increasingly complex caseload, and representing clients in all phases of affirmative administrative litigation. Assists less experienced staff attorneys to become effective in representation of their. Must develop a positive working relationship with client communities and community-based organizations. Efficiently handle team administration: Under the supervision of, and on behalf of, the Senior Attorney, assists with and in some cases handles team administration: monitoring, maintenance of team calendar, and review of cases in case management system to see that all cases meet funding requirements. Provide supervision to volunteers and interns in office and at community outreach presentations and workshops Under the direction of the Senior Attorney, assists in the implementation of management policies. Works with Senior Attorney to administer and report on grants. As a team member, assist in the development and implementation of new strategies for resolution of systemic problems which adversely affect our client communities. Timely and accurately performs all required personal administrative duties for the benefit of the program and as an example for their staff. E.g., is punctual, sets a good attendance example for staff, daily entry of time and case notes into the Case Management System, and timely completes administrative and required regulatory and contractual tasks Works in such a way as to be an example for team members and other program personnel Efficiently handles team administration: Time sheet approval, review of sick leave, evaluations, coordination of annual leave with team, monitoring/maintenance of team calendar - all scheduled appearances. Trains new attorneys. Compliance with all program and grant requirements.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Must be a member of the California Bar. Must have 3 years' experience as a practicing attorney, 2 of which must be in public interest, including county indigent programs, with administrative law and/or litigation experience. Must have demonstrated capabilities in using basic tools of the litigating attorney: writs, appeals, discovery, remedies, and all phases of motion practice and/or administrative law and writ practice as well as trial experience. Must have demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the proposed area of practice with the ability to develop procedural and substantive strategies to effectively represent clients and undertake resolution of structural inequities affecting our client population. Must have demonstrated capacity to train and mentor lesser experienced attorneys. Demonstrated experience in working with and representing our client communities. Demonstrated skills in managing others in a regulated climate and ensuring personal and team compliance with such regulations. Excellent Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with the public and advocates. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with accuracy and minimal direction. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required by events and deadlines. Must have reliable transportation. Desired: Fluency in written and spoken Spanish preferred. Experience in public health issues. Excellent Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
