Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, GS 9 - 11 Duties: The candidate will administer a safety and occupational health program in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and command methodology. Advise management officials on the status of safety and occupational health programs to aid in operational decision making. Conduct risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards related to a work process. Conduct safety walkthroughs to identify hazards for industrial operations. Brief management on safety deficiencies identified and recommend corrective actions.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications:
For GS-11: Must have 1+ year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conducting safety and health inspections and recommend measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and conditions.

Or

Should have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.


OR

Must have completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Or

Should have completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.

For GS-09: Must have 1+ year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conducting safety inspections and evaluations of facilities to include worksites, machine and equipment operations, and handling and storage of hazardous materials.

Or

Should have completed a masters or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Or

Must have completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master?s degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Should have LL.B. or JD degree that is related to the position being filled.
