Profile

Supervising Staff Attorney - Criminal Division The candidate will Embrace NDS’ philosophy of client-centered, community-based, holistic representation and commitment to excellence. Will manage a team charged with representing clients accused of crimes. Train and supervise staff, including Staff Attorneys, Social Workers, Investigators, and Team Administrators. Provide vigorous direct representation with energy and enthusiasm to residents of Northern Manhattan in Manhattan’s criminal courts in a limited number of cases. Ensure the coordination of work performed by team members (investigators, social workers and team administrators). Ensure collaboration with cross-practice colleagues (family defense, immigration defense, housing defense and other civil defense) to obtain comprehensive legal outcomes for clients. Must possess a demonstrated commitment to criminal justice, indigent defense, social justice issues and/or the Harlem communities. Must have 5+ years of experience representing clients in criminal cases. Must possess the high level of organizational and administrative skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus. J.D. degree is needed.
