ProfileLegal Assistant The candidate will be assisting the VP, Senior Development & Leasing Counsel who co-manages the Legal Leasing department of approximately 10 lease documentation professionals and support staff, drafting and tracking new development project leases. Will be assisting to coordinate outside counsel work on lease drafting, negotiating and execution. Responsible for legal coordination and tracking connected with due diligence information gathering, negotiation, execution and post lease execution follow through for big box, restaurant, other retail leases. Take care of other shopping center legal matters. Prepare lease drafts, drafts of other legal documents, correspondence, memos, reports and analyses of real estate issues requested internally. Follow up on outstanding matters for VP, Senior Development & Leasing Counsel. Answer and respond to incoming phone inquiries. Draft, track and follow up on post-lease execution contingencies, including drafting of Memorandum of Leases, SNDA’s and title objection letter responses. Conduct, compile and summarize research requests related to shopping center lease provisions and REA’s upon request. Assist VP, Senior Development & Leasing Counsel with calendar, data storage and general file storage issues. Compile master lists of exclusives for outside counsel and VP for big box leases. Compile spreadsheets in Excel based upon analysis of lease provisions related to development project delivery requirements, co-tenancy requirements and other information sought by other departments for development projects. Review lease comments from opposing counsel and help prepare business issue memos for internal approvals. Prepare lease redrafts using formbook language in our system in response to opposing counsel lease comments. Process all shopping center documentation prepared by VP, Senior Development & Leasing Counsel in accordance with corporate procedures and systems in place. Use internally approved language to prepare lease redrafts for review by VP, Senior Development & Leasing Counsel. Gather due diligence materials from internal and external records and sources for leases to forward to and interface with opposing counsel staff as needed. Update and maintain CRM (company proprietary software) records. All other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Minimum 3-6 years experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably in Real Estate/Commercial Leasing. Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Oracle, Excel and BOX/Cloud storage. Must have the ability to effectively proof-read documents. Experience with lease terminology/language preferred by not required (experience in reading and interpreting other contract-type language may be substituted).
