ProfileParalegal, Legal & Business Affairs Duties: Provide general assistance and support to Legal & Business Affairs Legal Team (SVP, VP and Sr. Director) in the areas of Litigation, Employment, Records and Information Management, Privacy and Compliance. Assist with drafting and revising basic response letters, form agreements, including non-disclosure, consulting, severance, settlement, and release agreements. Create, organize and maintain litigation files, binders, and document repository database, eDocs (OpenText) for the Litigation Department. Maintain, update docket and Litigation Team Calendar, including entering monthly new cases/matters and current status, and tracking filing deadlines and other response dates for lawsuits, claims, subpoenas, government/regulatory inquiries, and other requests or demands. Perform legal and factual research via the internet or other means for a variety of media related concerns. Assisting with responses to document productions in lawsuits, reviewing and analyzing documents and preparing files and exhibits. Screening of episodes of scripted movies/series & reality programming for pre-litigation and litigation issues. Document retrieval from online legal sources, including Pacer and Westlaw. Acceptance of service documents on behalf of company, as is necessary. Handle subpoena responses (including coordinating internal resources), including gathering, reviewing, indexing, redacting, bate-stamping, and producing responsive documents and media content to counsel and government agencies. Create and maintain database for all subpoenas received by the company, including dates of service and response. Manage the company’s unsolicited idea/submission correspondence process, including receiving and responding to all unsolicited letters and maintaining a database of all responses to submissions. Manage “Not For Air/“Not For Sale” process with internal and external sources, including preparation and sending of approved “do not air or distribute” notices, monitoring status of programs placed on legal hold list, and releasing programs from legal hold. Prepare and send document preservation notices, monitor responses and follow-up with custodians. Provide support as needed to Head of Litigation and VP, Privacy and Compliance with Employment, Records Management, Privacy and Compliance projects. Assist Records and Information Management “RIM” Coordinator with preparing PowerPoint presentations and adhering to “RIM” policy for the Litigation Department. Help prepare witness files and the preparation of exhibits as well as review documents and deposition transcripts.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies; Paralegal certificate; ABA-approved paralegal training; a law degree or advanced degree(s) a plus. 2+ years of experience as a Paralegal/Attorney in either a mid-size to large top law firm, law department of a government agency, or an in-house legal department or business affairs department of a television, publishing, music or media company the size/activity level of A+E. Advanced level of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Highly organized, detail orientated, strong proofreading skills, and ability to time manage multiple tasks and takes initiative. Maturity and good judgment “a must” as this position will be dealing with confidential documents on a regular basis. Must be a team player who can interact with all levels of management, across departments and outside counsel. Command and knowledge of “Litigation Lifecycle” and document management applications, databases and office productivity tools is required. Technology proficiency using eDiscovery, legal hold and e-billing software (Legal Tracker/Serengeti), Adobe Acrobat Pro X, a plus.
