Director of Policy The candidate for the Reproductive Health and Rights Program will manage the companyâ€™s policy and legal work on reproductive health, rights and justice issues, including federal and state policy on abortion coverage and access, contraception and other sexual and reproductive health issues. Will conduct legal and policy analysis across these areas, work with coalition partners and other external stakeholders to address policy questions and advance advocacy campaigns, and collaborate with colleagues across the companyâ€™s core programs to holistically address the barriers that women face and pursue proactive policy solutions. Will work with, and under the direction of, the Vice President for Reproductive Health and Rights, and will: Provide strategic, policy and technical assistance to, and facilitate ongoing communication among policy makers, researchers and advocates in the reproductive health, rights and justice field; Conduct legal and policy analysis to help develop and inform the companyâ€™s Reproductive Health and Rights Programâ€™s federal and state policy priorities and the organizationâ€™s position on judicial cases and decisions; Oversee policy and advocacy research initiatives; Direct the teamâ€™s response to proposed rules from regulatory agencies including by drafting comment letters, template letters and coordinating with coalition partners; Work with other members of the team on federal and state legislative and policy work including by conducting legal and policy research, drafting legislative testimony and letters, and providing strategic input to federal, state and local advocates and legislators considering or engaged in policy and advocacy campaigns; Assist the organizationâ€™s leadership in determining whether amicus briefs are needed in particular high-interest or high-impact cases and coordinate the companyâ€™s participation as needed; Represent the company in select coalitions, at conferences and in other public forums; Respond to requests from and provide interviews to media outlets; Participate in senior staff and other organizational meetings and help to shape overall organizational goals and strategies; Assist in fundraising activities; Coordinate with other company programs and departments; and Supervise staff and interns as needed.
Qualification and Experience
A JD or other graduate degree is required. Knowledge of issues involving reproductive health, rights and justice is strongly preferred. Should have 8-10 years of professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility, preferably at an advocacy organization, on a political campaign and/or in a public officialâ€™s office. Will be a creative, self-motivated and strategic thinker with excellent research, policy analysis and written and oral communications skills, strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work well in a team or coalition. Candidates should have the proven ability to work independently, pay close attention to detail, work well in situations with tight deadlines and multiple priorities, and possess a strong commitment to the companyâ€™s mission.
