Legal Assistant/Paralegal Duties: Under general direction, performs a variety of complex and legal administrative activities which may be highly confidential and sensitive. To act as legal resource to consumer bankruptcy clients. Prepares and assembles materials, documents, and exhibits for bankruptcy pleadings, court appearances, and hearings as requested by Attorney. Assist chapter 13 consumer and small business clients with amendments to bankruptcy schedules, budgets, and reorganization plans. Work directly with attorneys regarding legal/research issues. Prepares for Attorney s amendments to bankruptcy pleadings and submit documents to Trustees and other interested parties. Proofread and correct prepared materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, syntax, and content. Ensure the flow of legal documents remains constant and unhindered. Reviews tax returns, promissory notes, profit and loss statements, paystubs, and secured real estate documents, titles from clients to support bankruptcy cases. Assist in management of closing files and drafting and filing of motions required in chapter 13 cases with the bankruptcy court. Assists clients with securing documents for initial bankruptcy filing. Assists Attorney with preparing of initial bankruptcy pleadings. Some collection of client accounts receivable Other office duties as assigned. Coverage of phone when current receptionist is not available. Communicate with clients over telephone. Provide superior client service. Team player with existing bankruptcy staff. Qualifications: Bachelor or Associate Degree preferred; High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Significant related experience in Bankruptcy law in Missouri may substitute for education. 2+ years' experience in a law firm or legal department setting. Must be proficient with: Microsoft software (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.). Familiarity with Best Case Bankruptcy Software is a huge plus. Typing speed at 40 wpm.
