Technical Claims Supervisor - GL Coverage The candidate will actively manage and effectively oversee all assigned general liability coverage and casualty coverage claims handled by Third-party Administrator (TPA) Team members supporting high-exposure commercial business accounts. Will handle and manage bad faith suits, coverage actions, and declaratory judgments. Direct the response to policy & time limit demands as well as insurance department complaints. Collaborate with Legal Department in management of bad faith claims, suits, coverage actions, declaratory judgments, policy limit demands, etc. Establish and develop cross-functional collaborations with team members of Underwriting, Senior Management, and other business units to maintain productive working relationships for projects involving analysis of policy language and recommending policy language/refinement changes. Maintain contact with TPA team members, business line leader, underwriter, and defense counsel, program manager, and broker. Development and implementation of strategy relative to coverage issues which correlate with the overall strategy of matters entrusted to the handler's care. Processes for reviewing claims investigations, files, materials, pleadings, and other relevant documents of the insureds. Identification and review of each jurisdiction's applicable statutes, rules, and case law. Review of litigation materials including depositions and expert's reports. Analyze and direct risk transfer, additional insured issues, and contractual indemnity issues. Make decisions regarding counsel retention for defense, coverage, and issues regarding tender to other parties. Direct counsel in accordance with resolution strategy. Analyze coverage, liability, and damages for purposes of assessing and recommending reserves. Prepare and present written and oral reports to senior management setting forth all issues influencing evaluation and recommending reserves. Travel to and from locations within the United States to attend mediations, trials, and other proceedings relevant to the resolution of the matter. Negotiate resolution of claims. Select and utilize structure brokers. Maintain a diary of all claims, post reserves in a timely fashion, and expeditiously respond to claims inquiries from the insured, counsel, underwriters, brokers, and senior management.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Juris Doctorate degree. 10 years’ experience overseeing & managing general liability coverage and casualty coverage claims processes for high-exposure commercial accounts is desired. Exceptional written/verbal communication, time management, and organizational skills plus. Must have strong evaluation and negotiation skills plus. Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word is ideal.
