Job Overview

A prominent law firm based in Sherman Oaks, CA, is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Writer & Strategist with a focus on complex personal injury litigation. The firm specializes in high-value catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to craft persuasive legal narratives, contribute to legal strategy, and handle high-stakes civil litigation cases.

Duties

• Draft and review a wide range of legal documents:
  • Discovery motions: motions to compel, oppositions, replies, and protective orders
  • Summary judgment materials: oppositions and replies for summary judgment/adjudication
  • Evidentiary motions: motions in limine, oppositions, and Daubert/Kelly challenges
  • Trial documents: trial briefs, proposed jury instructions, motions for directed verdicts
  • Post-trial motions: motions for a new trial, judgment notwithstanding the verdict (JNOV)
  • Appellate work: writs, appeal briefs
  • Settlement documents: mediation briefs, mandatory settlement statements
• Develop innovative legal strategies to address challenging legal precedents.
• Analyze complex medical and damages issues to craft persuasive legal arguments.
• Collaborate with the legal team to strategize on significant cases.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in high-stakes civil litigation, ideally with a focus on personal injury or complex tort cases.
• Proven success in motions and appeals in both state and federal courts.
• Strong research and legal analysis skills with a deep understanding of California and federal civil procedure.
• Expertise in translating complex medical and scientific data into persuasive legal content.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Law Review experience preferred.

Certifications

• An active member of the California State Bar in good standing.

• Advanced research capabilities using legal databases and tools.
• Excellent project management skills, able to juggle multiple high-priority cases under tight deadlines.
