Civil Practice Staff Attorney The candidate will be a member of a team of attorneys and paralegals who conduct off-site intake throughout New York City at various hospitals, health care centers, and community based organizations that provide services to persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A). Will participate in the Single-Stop Program and staff off-site intake. Handle individual representation and advocacy in a variety of civil legal proceedings with an emphasis in housing, government, public benefits, family, and general civil law matters. Community outreach and education as well as policy advocacy for PLWH/As. Conduct off-site intake throughout New York City at various hospitals, health care centers, and community based organizations that provide services to PLWH/As. Conduct training and community outreach and provide education to individuals, local community-based organizations, and housing advocates. Policy advocacy on behalf of clients. Coordination and collaborative work with other groups and organizations. Promote the work of and represent the office, the Project, the Civil Practice, and Legal Aid in the community. Conduct off-site intake, including during evening hours. Must have 2+ years of experience as a litigator and/or experience working with a population impacted by chronic or critical illness. Should be admitted to NYS Bar. Experience in housing litigation is desired. Knowledge of family, public, and government benefits law is a plus. Excellent written and oral advocacy skills is needed. Demonstrated commitment and experience in public interest law and civil legal services is must. Proficiency in languages other than English is desired. Deadline: Jun 28, 2018
