Legal Secretary The candidate will serve as Legal Assistant to assigned attorneys. Preserve each attorney's case files including file management and case tracking: promptly process and deliver incoming documents and file as needed in client files, maintain client files in a well-organized and clutter-free manner, monitor and check file due dates, review database reports and calendar entries, assess and review trial court records. Access trial court documents and appellate court documents from circuit court and appellate court electronic case management systems. Track and monitor each attorney's caseload. Monitor calendar due dates. Produce files and documents at attorney or management direction. Provide support and coverage of duties for other legal assistants including: serve as legal assistant "officer of the day" on a rotating basis to provide necessary assistance when an attorney's legal assistant is absent, manage case transfers, process regular and colorable claim new case intake, handle parole intake. Coordinate schedule for rotating attorney and legal assistant "officer of the day." Coordinate oral argument docket. Provide assistance and backup coverage for the central reception desk. Must have 2+ years of clerical/secretarial experience, or 18 months of clerical/secretarial experience as a legal assistant or secretary for an attorney or judge or performance of legal support duties (such as preparing legal documents, maintaining legal records or researching legal information). Knowledge of following is must: Complex secretarial and clerical procedures such as calendaring, maintaining appointment schedules, developing and monitoring files, and screening incoming calls and information; Work processing software and computer equipment Legal terminology, systems and process; Legal record keeping and report preparation; Court rules and regulations.
