ProfileLegal Assistant (Part-Time) Duties: Preparing green card and naturalization applications and family petitions in advance of attorneys’ meetings with clients, telephoning clients, scheduling meetings, processing mail, copying, completing USCIS forms, and general research. Supports IRIS’s attorneys (currently 2, may be 3 in the future), and reports to the Immigration Legal Services Director. Processing USCIS applications, scheduling appointments, following up with clients, conducting general research, logging in telephone inquiries and mail, managing Excel spreadsheets for client case statistics and fee ledger, proofreading, editing, and other legal office support tasks.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Candidates must have 3+ years of relevant experience or educational background; strong writing, communication and organizational skills; computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel; and ability to handle multiple demands and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must have a demonstrated commitment to the mission of IRIS and awareness and sensitivity to multicultural issues. Must be fluent in English. Proficiency in another language is desirable, especially Arabic, French, or Spanish.
Schedule: 15-25 hours/week; Monday - Thursday.
