Staff Counsel, Government Contracting The candidate provides legal advice and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations and privileges of the organization. Represents the organization to customers, suppliers, competitors and government agencies. Provides resolution of business or technical issues by identifying legal solutions and recommending a course of action. Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits. Provides legal support for Company’s medical surgical supply business’ pursuit and performance of federal and state and local government contracts; Develop close working relationship with business stakeholders to facilitate efficient and effective preparation and submission of proposals and negotiation of contract terms and conditions; Work directly with business stakeholders and other members of the GCO to identify and address legal risks and issues raised by contracting with the government; Review of solicitations and advise the business on risks and appropriate responses; Represent Company in engagements with government attorneys and contracting professionals; Serves as a legal advisor to business unit stakeholders on a wide array of topics relating to segment needs, including legal risk mitigation, customer management; and Familiarity with differences between government contracting and commercial contracting. Should have 2-4 years of relevant experience. Should have Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials. Member of a jurisdiction is required. Should have familiarity with federal, state, and local government contracting rules. Excellent contracting drafting and negotiation skills. Should have ability to provide sound, clear legal advice within the company, including senior business executives. Should have ability to adapt communication style depending on the recipient’s level of sophistication about legal issues. Ability to work closely with, facilitate interactions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (including representatives from other areas of the General Counsel Organization regulatory and compliance professionals, sales professionals and operations managers). Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal team.
